I wish Batman was depicted like this more often. Many of his villains are mentally ill and victims of tragic circumstances, it would be nice to see him try to help them as much as he helps the people they put in danger because of their problems.
It was one of the many things that made the Animated Series great. They bothered to get Batman was more than a force of vengeance. He was trying to help.
- He worked to help Harley above.
- He was also working to help Harvey Dent recover.
- He worked to get the Ventriloquist good psychiatric aid, and then watched out for him when he tried to start a normal life.
- He even worked to help smaller crooks. In one case, after he coerced information and sent the guy to prison, he got him a job with Wayne Enterprise. All so he could right his life.
It was showing this side that expanded on the character in a way that too often doesn’t happen. Also it is fun to see characters, even villains grow, change, and recover from their ills. (I was probably one of the few people who liked it when Riddler went legit in the comics.)
Batman TAS was better than any and every Batman movie that has ever been made.
